Furman: First The MTN8, Then The League…
Dean Furman Wants MTN8 And Absa Premiership Success At SuperSport United
SuperSport United captain, Dean Furman, thinks that victory in this weekend’s MTN8 final could help the club make a better fist of their Absa Premiership title challenge this season.
Matsatsantsa were top of the table going into the Christmas break last year, however, they lost form at the start of 2017 and, despite progress in the CAF Confederation Cup, ended up finishing fifth, 12 points behind the winners, Bidvest Wits.
Prior to winning the league, Wits had triumphed in the MTN8 earlier in the season, and the Bafana Bafana international is hopeful that SuperSport can follow a similar path this season if they can beat Benni McCarthy’s Cape Town City on Saturday.
Speaking to the media this week, the 29-year-old said, “As SuperSport players, we know that we're are in this club to lift trophies. What a great opportunity we have on Saturday to do that within few a months after the start of the season.
"Last season we just fell short at the death in the league‚ while this time we want to change that. We were on top of the log for the two-thirds but fell short.”
"That's what is motivating us this time around,” he explained. “We want to go all the way. There's no point in patting ourselves on the back for being top in December or February, but if we win on Saturday, hopefully, that can catapult us into a stronger league push than we had last season."
SuperSport face City at Moses Mabhida Stadium at 19h00 on Saturday.
