In the opening stage of the competition, City secured a 1-0 win over Polokwane City at the Cape Town Stadium on August 12, after the Citizens done enough to hang on to the own goal from Rise and Shine’s Sibusiso Mbonani.

Head Coach Benni McCarthy’s side then went head-to-head with Bidvest Wits in a two-legged semi-final, which saw the Mother City-based club secure back-to-back wins over the struggling Clever Boys.

It was Patosi who handed his side the first-leg win at the Cape Town Stadium on August 27 when he found the back of the net in the 44th minute.

The Students then hosted McCarthy’s side in the second leg on September 10, where an own goal from Wits’ Amr Gamal and a well-worked goal by Lehlohonolo Majoro handed City a 2-1 win, making the score 3-1 on aggregate, comfortably booking their place in the final of the competition.

Now, City will lock horns with SuperSport United in the final of the MTN8 competition which will be taking place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, October 14.

Speaking in issue number 1044 of Soccer Laduma, Patosi revealed that City will be ready for the big game as clinching their first trophy of the season will be important for their confidence.

“The mood is good and everyone looks ready for the big game. We all know how important it is for Cape Town City to win this trophy. We need to continue from where we left off in our last game and that would be really good for Cape Town,” Patosi said in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma.

“For me, this is a very important game because this is my very first season in the Absa Premiership and I’m in a cup final with my team. I’m happy with the decision I made to join Cape Town City and I’m really enjoying my game. I’m back home, playing for a great team, enjoying my football, so what more can I really ask for? Winning that trophy will go a long way in boosting mine and the team’s confidence,” he added.
