Horror Injury Means Season Over For Amakhosi Star?

The injury to Joseph Molangoane over the weekend could mean that the Kaizer Chiefs man’s season is over before it even really got going.
 
 
The 30-year-old made his first appearance of 2018/19 when Giovanni Solinas handed him a starting berth against Free State Stars, getting off to the perfect start as he set up Dumisani Zuma for the opening goal.
 
However, his night went from joy to horror in the second half when a nasty collision saw him stretchered off, and it has since been revealed that his lower right leg will need to be repaired with surgery.
 
Dr Aadil Bodhania, of Kaizer Chiefs’ Medical Department, told the club’s official website, “Joseph Molangoane will undergo surgery to repair his lower right leg. Early prognosis indicates a fracture of the distal tibia and fibula to the lower right leg.”
 
Given the extent of the injury, ‘Tight’ is unlikely to play again this season as he recovers and builds up the strength in his ankle once again, however, there is positive news in the fact that most players do manage to make a full recovery. He will only be able to even look at the possibility of returning to training at some time in 2019, though. 
 
A recent study by Dr Gregory Robertson, an orthopaedic trauma resident at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, found that 86% of players investigated, returned to soccer within two years of the injury, with 83% playing at the same level as before or higher.
 
Meanwhile, the club also said, “Siphelele Ntshangase got a knock to his ankle. The midfielder also had to be stretchered off the field, while goalkeeper Virgil Vries finished the match with a strapping to his knee after a slip when he pulled one of the saves during the match.”
 
Solinas dedicated the 3-0 win to the attacker, telling kaizerchiefs.com, "We will miss a good teammate and an important player. We dedicate this game to Joseph.”
