Amakhosi Coach Highlights Chiefs’ Failings

Giovanni Solinas Knows Where Kaizer Chiefs Are Lacking

By Soccer Laduma - Aug 11, 2018 11:00 AM
Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach, Giovanni Solinas, has identified the aspects of their game that they need to improve upon if they’re to beat his former side this evening.

The Glamour Boys come up against Free State Stars at 18h00 this evening as they try to book their place in the semi-finals of the MTN8 competition for the first time since Steve Komphela’s first season in charge, but will need to perform better if they are to do so.

Chiefs drew their opening game of the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season to Mamelodi Sundowns in a promising display, however, were then well beaten by Bidvest Wits just a few days later as they plummeted down the table.

Now, as Solinas looks to try and avoid a third game without a win at the start of his Amakhosi tenure, he says that they want to play dominating football going forward.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Italian said, “We want to play offensive football and try to dominate the game. We have to work as well on our defensive and offensive game, as we need to improve on our finishing.

“It takes time to implement our philosophy of football. We need to be patient. We will get there and I feel positive about the future.”

Chiefs and Stars lock horns at FNB Stadium tonight, with Solinas taking on his former employers for the first time.

The reality is that FNB Stadium isnt good for playing smaller teams. They come motivated and the effect of the twelfth player, supporters, is minimum because of the size of the stadium. Chiefs needs to identify a much smaller stadium to play certain games, especially now. Only Dunusa and Rats must be taken to FNB.

You have my fully support Mr Coach! They played very well against Wits despite not getting results. I hope I made myself clear. I am not saying possesional football is better than results, but what am saying is that dominating the game in football means you have got greater chances of winning the game than your opponents. I wish the boys all the best in their MTN8 cup match against stars tonight.

@Vhivha to be honest Paez is a cow i wonder what is it that whoever who scouted him saw in him that's so special. He just runs likes a headless chicken and hasn't contributed anything to the team. Chiefs need special players not just any player that can run faster than the ball :-)

@Dangerous when provoked true there shabba is an engine Ekstien is very weak i still wonder why the likes of him make it to top flight football. In mzansi when ur a skillful soccer player no matter how weak u can be sure to make the cut. I also think that today's methods of training also contribute.... back then players were very skillful and strong at the same time, i remember vividly while i was still playing soccer as a youngster we trained hard ud swear we were in an army. Ud carry ur teamate on ur shoulders and walk on ur toes right around the whole field also made to climb the hill running (to build strong muscles) .. It was tough training thats y soccer matches back then were very tough, players were no push overs, These days we have indoor training gyms where its warm and cozy (which is not a bad thing) - but there must be a balance. When it's raining or very cold training outside is a NO NO. We have weaklings these days. As the saying goes NO PAIN NO GAIN.

Should you wish to play offensive play use Cardoso, Ngezana, Radebe and Mirwa at the back then Katsande, Ekstein, Molangoane and Mahlasela in the midfield Billiat and Parker forward.

Consistency wins the games but inconsistencies will take you to NFD. Today you will play offensive next week on the backfoot what do you expect. You were offensive against Sundowns and chose to be on back foot against Wits what's that? Yanginyanyisa wena Selina.

Pirates is not playing Gabuza and Makola because offensive play is for youngsters madala suffocates.
