Eymael: Some Of My Players Lack Character

By Soccer Laduma - Aug 11, 2018 10:03 PM

Free State Stars head coach Luc Eymael says some of his players showed no character in the 3-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 quarter-finals.

Ea Lla Koto bowed out of the MTN8 on Saturday evening, after losing 3-0 to the Soweto giants at the FNB Stadium.

The Belgian tactician was not happy with his players and their communication during the encounter.

“We were lacking especially on the wings. We were overloading the midfield, we studied everything. I gave them the information unfortunately our communication was not good,” Eymael told SuperSport after the match.

“It’s how we conceded the first goal and the same thing on the second goal despite the fact that I rectified somethings at halftime. There was still room for a comeback. I’m disappointed with some of the players today.

“Once they came in [substitutions] they didn’t add any value unfortunately we got an injury... but we are conceding too many goals. It’s not normal now, we conceded three the first game. We won the second game but now three again, some of my players are showing lack of character. I’m not happy at all about that,” he continued.

“I’m sure if we had scored one goal Chiefs would’ve panicked and we would have come back like the PSL game we saw between Highlands Park and Black Leopards [on Thursday] but to provoke that you need to push harder, press harder.

“There were too many players not at their level, I’m sorry to say that. I like them a lot, I appreciate them it’s my boys but when it’s good I say it’s good when it’s not good I have to say the truth."

I use to admire this coach but now he is disappointing me with his comments. I think Vha-Dau hit the nail on the when he said he was still thinking that Steve Khompela is the coach at Chiefs which is the only coach that he beat. Mr Eymael I respect you as a coach but be humble enough and acknowledge that Chiefs were superior to your small team. Fact is you a very good coach for a small team and there is nothing wrong when you loose to a big team like Chiefs.

Why blame your players instead of admitting that Chiefs were superior
