Benni McCarthy has commented on Tokelo Rantie’s fitness level ahead of this weekend’s MTN8 final.
Cape Town City will lock horns with SuperSport United at the familiar Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, September 29, where the two sides will once again battle it out to be crowned MTN8 champions.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, McCarthy commented on whether or not their new signing and Bafana Bafana international, Rantie, will be fit enough to potentially make his debut this weekend.
“Of course we are always hopeful (to have him fit for the final), so he is working mainly with the (fitness) coach and the physio. He had a little setback (because) we pushed him really hard because we want him to get back into shape and to the level where we know that he can hurt teams in this league and he is one of the best strikers out there in the country and we want him at his best,” McCarthy told the media.
Rantie had been out of action for several months prior to the 28-year-old making his return to the Premier Soccer League.
“So I think us pushing him a little bit, so now he had a couple of setbacks, his hamstring is a little bit tight so we don’t want to push, we just reduced his workload and see how he responds and then if we get an okay by (Wednesday) hopefully we can go into Thursday with the possibility that he might be there,” the City head coach added.
