Tinkler: We Defended Exceptionally Well
Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler praised his side's defensive display after the 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 on Friday.
City scored the opening goal in the seventh minute of the cup tie and were able to defend that fragile lead and claim a spot in the semi-finals.
The victory sees the new franchise boasting a perfect start to their first season, as they beat Polokwane City 2-0 in the Absa Premiership in midweek.
Tinkler said: "I'm obviously very proud of the boys. It was important for us to be disciplined defensively, organised, and structured. We knew they would be looking to come at us. I thought we defended exceptionally well today, and Shu-Aib was fantastic in goal for us.
"I knew we would get chances on the counter. They got the corner, we got the goal, and then we almost scored a second just before half-time.
"Second-half we defended a bit deeper. The boys got a little nervous, a little cagey, but that's understandable. Defensively we were solid."
