MTN8 2016

Starting XI: Stars V Chippa

MTN8 Quarterfinal

Teams: Platinum Stars v Chippa United

Date: 27 August 2016

Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium

Platinum Stars and Chippa United will battle for a place in the semifinals of the MTN8 when they meet at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The match is scheduled to get underway at 15h00.

Stars make a return to the MTN8 after a strong showing in the Absa Premiership last season where they finished third.

The Rustenburg side last appeared in the Top Eight competition in 2014, reaching the semifinals where they were beaten 5-0 on aggregate by eventual champions Kaizer Chiefs.

In 2013 Dikwena won the MTN8 – their only title in the competition – by defeating Orlando Pirates on penalties in the final.

As for Chippa United, they will be making their debut in the MTN8, with their sixth place finish in last season’s league representing the first time they have cracked the top half of the table.

Stars and Chippa have a limited head-to-head history, with the Chilli Boys having only arrived on the PSL scene in the 2012/13 season.

However, they have clashed once before in a cup competition, with Dikwena claiming a 1-0 home win in the last 16 of the 2014 Telkom Knockout.

In all, the teams have met seven times across all competitions. Chippa have three wins compared to two for Stars, while two matches have been drawn.
