Over the past weekend, Absa Premiership fixtures took to the stage.
The weekend’s action started on Friday with a tense all-KZN affair between AmaZulu FC and Maritzburg United. Eric Tinkler’s men came out on top, with a 1-0 victory, extending their unbeaten run to five matches.
Saturday saw Kaizer Chiefs play to a stalemate against Cavin Johnson’s Black Leopards at Thohoyando, with an excellent free-kick from Mogakolodi Ngele which levelled matters, after Samir Nurkovic had given the Absa Premiership log leaders an early lead.
Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates, continued their impressive form under German mentor, Josef Zinnbauer. Reigning PSL Player of the Year, Thembinkosi Lorch, opened his account for the season with a well-taken goal, while goals from in-form Gabadinho Mhango and Paseka Mako also scored.
On Saturday night, Cape Town City earned a much needed 2-0 victory over Bidvest Wits in a very windy Mother City, after goals from Kermit Erasmus and Craig Martin.
And on Sunday, a tightly contested Pretoria derby saw Mamelodi Sundowns come out on top, with a 2-1 victory over a strong SuperSport United outfit. Goals from Themba Zwane and Thapelo Morena were enough to see the Absa Premiership champions gain all three points, despite Dean Furman pulling a goal back via the penalty spot.
