Over the past month a number of players raised their hands to be counted among the best, with the DStv Premiership expected to announce the Coach and Player of the Month awards for April/May soon.
Mamelodi Sundowns, despite having won the league title already, continued to be a force to be reckoned with in the DStv Premiership as they’ve not put their foot off the paddle with coach Manqoba Mngqithi, Rulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela compelling the team to go for the jugular in the remaining games so that they can finish the campaign with as many points as possible.
Cape Town City, under coach Eric Tinkler, have also been a team to watch as they continue to collect points and impressive enough not to drop many. Such has been their good form that they overtook Royal AM and replaced them on the second spot of the log, although the KZN-based side still has a game in hand, 14 points adrift of Sundowns who have made the number one spot their own this campaign.
Chippa United have also been quietly impressive under coach Kurt Lentjies as he looks to turn things around and secure the team’s status following a difficult season they’ve had where they could hardly collect points consistently.
Among the front-runners for the Player of the Month award will be Andile Jali, Hugo Marques, Azola Matrose, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Hugo Nyame and Lindokuhle Mbatha as they’ve been influential for their respective teams.
