Moira Tlhagale, the wife and agent of Pitso Mosimane, has issued a statement responding to reports that she’s being sued by Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Sunday World published a story at the weekend that Downs, through their legal representative, filed papers at the Johannesburg High Court last Wednesday to force Sports Marketing and Management, a company owned by Tlhagale, to reimburse money owned for agent’s fees.
"It is with a deep measure of shock and disappointment that MT Sports Marketing and Management has received summons from Mamelodi Sundowns FC demanding to be paid back commission fees in lieu of coach Pitso Mosimane," the statement read.
She had initially procured a deal for Mosimane to pen a new lucrative contract at Chloorkop to extend his stay beyond the 2019/20 season.
According to the report, as well as the court papers, Sundowns paid Tlhagale “R8 632 260, which was a 10 % agent commission for securing Mosimane’s signature to the club” prior to abruptly quitting in October.
"We have received communication from Mamelodi Sundowns and have attempted to reach an amicable solution to this matter, however they have not responded to our request to meet with us. We attempted to speak to then club president Dr Patrice Motsepe in January this year, and we were refused and also last week with chairman Tlhopane Motsepe, we were met with silence," the release stated further.
Mosimane agreed to a new four-year deal, which would have taken him to June 2024 as head coach of Downs, but he resigned to join Al Ahly.
As the Siya crew had previously reported, Mosimane was believed to have scored a handsome R1-million salary per month.
The court papers seen by Sunday World claim he was earning R1.5-million a month, and now the club is demanding Tlhagale pay back a R7 912 905 pro-rata fee.
"The leaking of the story to the media is impolite and smacks of bullying tactics. This also comes after last week’s events where sections of Sundowns fans hurled insults to Coach Pitso and his mother. The summons and the media leaks put into disrepute Dr Motsepe’s blessings on the termination of the contracts, and well-wishes on coach Pitso joining Al Ahly S.C last year," the press release explains.
This comes on the back of vile scenes from a section of Sundowns supporters who verbally abused Mosimane on his return to Mzansi with Al Ahly for their second leg CAF Champions League quarterfinals tie.
‘Jingles’ hinted then that he was also being harassed by a Downs official with “letters from lawyers”, but he did not give out a name.
Tlhagale also addressed social media posts circulating and claiming Patrice Motsepe is involved in match fixing and was using Alex Shakoane to bribe match officials.
"There are also social media posts making the rounds that Ms Tlhagale alleges that Dr Patrice Motsepe has used one of the team’s employees in match fixing. We would like to categorically state that Ms Tlhagale has never said such things about Dr Motsepe or anyone associated with the club. There are unknown forces that are attempting to put MT Sports Marketing and Management’s name into disrepute," the statement read.
"We, as MT Sports and Coach Pitso, are grateful to Mamelodi Sundowns for the years he spent there and would not like this glorious legacy to be soiled by tussles that could easily and rapidly be handled professionally and privately."
