Pitso Silences Loud Roars From His Critics

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has come under the cosh in recent times, but the serial winner has managed to silence his critics in the best way he knows how – winning big games.

A lot has been said about Mosimane and his team in recent times.

Their struggles in the Egyptian Premier League, his decision to stick with Percy Tau in the midst of a worrying goal drought, with some even going as far as accusing the 57-year-old of turning Al Ahly into a ‘small club’.

However, despite all the talk, Mosimane managed to get his side to deliver when it mattered most, as they romped to a 4-0 win over ES Setif in the CAF Champions League semi-final at the Cairo Stadium on Saturday.

Percy Tau (2), Mohamed Sherif and Taher Mohamed all found the back of the net for the Red Eagles.

After the match, Mosimane hailed his side’s performance but insisted that the job was not done yet despite their convincing scoreline.

“We have not qualified to the final. You will see our preparations are not going to be casual. Even the team over there will not be casual. I’ve been a coach for 21 years. I’ve seen teams turn the result from 4-0 to 5-4. Maybe it has happened here (Egypt) I’m not sure,” Mosimane told the media.

He also reserved praise for striker Percy Tau, who expertly set up two goals and managed to bag a brace on the night.

“I’ve known Percy for 20 years and I’ve been a coach for 21 years. Yes, it has been a concern for me, but I’ve always said to you I get worried if the team doesn’t create the chances but when the team creates the chances, it gives you hope. It’s not all about Percy scoring today, I’ve also waited for Sherif for 10 games to score one goal.  So lets not focus on Percy only, we have a team,” he added.
