Pitso: Don’t Be Deceived By This…

Mamelodi Sundown coach Pitso Mosimane expects a tougher outing in Angola when the Brazilians travel to Petro de Luanda late next month for their CAF Champions League group stage fixture. 

The Angolans were timid in what was the opening encounter for both sides at this stage of the tournament, Sundowns flying out 3-0 winners and going top of the Group C with Wydad Casablanca and USM Alger – the other two teams in the group – playing to a stalemate on Saturday night in Algeria.

“To be honest the resistance wasn’t that big. They (Petro) have a good attack, you can see they can do something in Angola. But we found our passing paths easier, we could find our guys in the middle who could control the game,” Mosimane said after the game. 

Downs got their goals from striker Mauricio Affonso, defender Motjeka Madisha and midfielder Siphelele Mkhulise. 

The coach, however, warned that Downs are unlikely to be on cruise control for the away leg on January 24 next year.  

“But don’t be deceived by this, in Angola it will be a different story. I am a little bit unhappy with my team in the final third. I think when they realised we could play free flowing football, we were stuck on that than being shrewd and taking the game as early as possible with a good lead,” Mosimane explained. 

“We should have scored two more goals to be honest. I wanted more aggression tonight, we were not that good. This team is big there, and when we go there you are guaranteed 60 000 fans at the stadium.”
