Njabulo Blom, who is just 19 years old, became the latest Amakhosi youngster to be thrown into the deep end by Ernst Middendorp, and his performance against Mamelodi Sundowns over the weekend has seen him receive plenty of praise from across the football fraternity.
The teenager played the full 90 minutes of Chiefs’ 2-0 win over Sundowns to extend their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership, and was involved in some crucial passages of play in order to make sure that his side walked away with all three points.
Blom was one of two Chiefs youth products who played on the day, alongside Siyabonga Ngezana, while two others – Bruce Bvuma and Happy Mashiane – were on the bench.
Meanwhile, Middendorp has also used the likes of Happy Mashiane, Lorenzo Gordinho and Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya over the course of the 2019/20 campaign so far, and another Amakhosi product, Sizwe Twala, has made the matchday squad more than once as he aims for his senior Chiefs debut.
Also waiting in the wings is the highly-rated Nkosingiphile Ngcobo who is pushing to get back after he injured his Achilles earlier in the year, and he is expected to play a role for the club for many years to come once he does get himself fit and firing again.
