Despite Orlando Pirates coming away with nothing in the recent Soweto Derby, Head Coach Josef Zinnbauer was more than satisfied with the performance from his side.
Pirates played host to log leaders, Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon, where Head Coach Ernst Middendorp’s side claimed all three points and bragging rights following a 1-0 win.
However, according to the statistics, Pirates had six shots on target, while Chiefs had only one – which, compliments of Lebogang Manyama, hit the back of the net.
Pirates also created the most chances (4) compared to Chiefs (2), while keeping the most possession with 57.4%.
“We know, we are not happy, the supporters are not happy that we lost the derby but you get the feeling from them that we had a good game,” Zinnbauer told the media after the game.
“We came from 11th place, we were 21 points behind Kaizer Chiefs, and now we are nine – but the season is not finished, although we don’t speak about the title, I think Sundowns and other teams have a chance against Kaizer Chiefs.
“But we, we have to focus for next season – we have a lot of work (to do), we saw a team from Kaizer Chiefs with a lot of experience. I’m not a magician, I can’t (snap fingers) and we win 1-0 against Kaizer Chiefs. We did our best, compliments to my team,” he added.
Pirates are in third place on the Absa Premiership standings, nine points behind the number one spot and while only a few will admit it, with eight more games to go, the Bucs are mathematically still in the title race.
