Downs’ Travelling Plans For Big Battle With Wydad

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed their travelling plans for what they expect to be a bruising battle with Wydad Casablanca in Group C of their CAF Champions League clash in Morocco on Saturday night.

The Brazilians got an ideal start at the weekend by beating Petro de Luanda of Angola 3-0 at Loftus Versfeld to go top of the table after Wydad were held to a draw by USM Alger earlier in the day in a match played in Algeria.

Downs, according to coach Pitso Mosimane, will now be leaving South Africa today to begin preparation for Wydad, who have become a fierce rival over the last several years in Africa’s premium club competition.

“We are leaving on Monday and obviously arriving on Tuesday and that will be a day off. We will start training on Wednesday and Friday is match day minus one, so it is three days training,” Mosimane said after the win over Petro.

“You know that we must go to Europe first to get to Africa. That’s the story because there is no direct flight from Morocco to South Africa.”

Sundowns will then return to the country to build up to their Telkom Knockout final fixture against Maritzburg United on December 14, with the Premier Soccer League having since confirmed that their midweek Absa Premiership game against Stellenbosch FC has been postponed to allow them time to prepare for the final.
