Breaking: Chiefs Issue Statement On ‘New Signings’

Kaizer Chiefs have given a player update following the decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to dismiss their appeal on the FIFA ban.

It was an extremely vague statement issued on their Twitter account – only to appear to set the record straight that “players who have been training with the team will leave to join team of their choice”, but did not mention them by name.

Last week, coach Gavin Hunt told the media that players who have been at the Village for some time now would “go out on loan” when asked specifically about Sifiso Hlanti and Phathutshedzo Nange.

Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen completes the trio – all of whom, the Siya crew have been informed, were offered employment contracts.

While the FIFA ban prohibits Chiefs from registering new players until July 1 next year, they can still offer them employment, though that would mean they are unable to be registered in their squad for the 2020/21 season.

Amakhosi then have to broker a deal with their rival clubs and be allowed to make an agreement for the players to return to them next season. But of course, they can’t make this public.

So, their statement on Monday – without revealing names – has suggested these players will leave Naturena to go try their luck elsewhere.

The club had only confirmed Hlanti was training with them, but all three players are free agents having received their clearances from TTM, the club that bought the top-flight status of Bidvest Wits a few months ago. They have been linked with moves to Swallows FC and Stellenbosch FC, but they are able to join those clubs even after the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.
