There is still uncertainty over the scheduled DStv Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City, as the Mother City club remains firm in its stance on the fixture, as previously reported by the Siya crew.

Insiders at the Citizens have revealed that despite the team’s planned trip to Gauteng this week to face Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday, the club is still waiting on official confirmation from the League regarding the Chiefs match.

City are scheduled to leave Cape Town for Gauteng on Tuesday in order to face Sundowns the following day but coach Eric Tinkler and the team are uncertain whether they will remain in the City of Gold after playing the Brazilians to prepare for the Chiefs fixture that is scheduled for this coming Saturday.

After failing to honour the original fixtures against Golden Arrows and City in December due to the Covid-19 outbreak as confirmed by the club at the time, Chiefs subsequently won their case at a SAFA arbitration, and as ordered by arbitrator Nazeer Cassim, the matches have to be replayed.

Last week, Amakhosi confirmed April 27 and 30 as the dates given to them by the PSL to play the outstanding two matches, and while Abafana Bes’thende are preparing to host the Soweto giants at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday, City have appeared to be more interested on the outcome of the court matter between Chiefs and the PSL about the December matches’ ruling. 

As reported by the Siya crew, the Cape side is concerned that playing before May 10, which is the date set for Chiefs and the PSL to face off at the Johannesburg High Court, could put players at risk for injury or suspension in a match that might not even matter at the end of the season, nor in the race for the second CAF Champions League spot on offer.
