Praises Continue To Pour In For ‘Fantastic’ Zungu

The praises continue pouring in for Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu following his glittering Glasgow Rangers debut last week, this time from a renowned Scottish coach.

It took no less than 45 minutes for Zungu to gain the recognition of his manager Steven Gerrard, his new Rangers teammates as well as the passionate Rangers supporters.

The 28-year-old made his first Rangers appearance in an 8-0 win over Academic last week.

Coming on as a half-time sub, the former Mamelodi Sundowns man showed just what he is made of and stamped his authority on the match with his wide range of passing and aggression in the middle of the park.

Scottish professional football coach and former player, Ian Durrant, who is currently assistant manager at East Kilbride, jumped on the Zungu bandwagon, and reckons there is much more to come from ‘Ben 10’.

“He’s been playing with the boys for a couple of weeks now, he comes on and just slotted in,” Durrant said on the popular Blues Brothers podcast.

“You feel as though he’s been there a lot longer than he has, he played the game and along with Aribo – he was again fantastic,” Durant added.

Zungu also made his impact felt on the international stage after coming off the bench to score a clinical header for Bafana in their 2-0 win over Sao Tome on Friday.

The midfielder will start the match for Molefi Ntseki’s side in the reverse fixture of the AFCON qualifier, which takes place this afternoon.

Kick off for the match is at 15:00.
