The Soweto derby takes center stage in the Telkom Knockout semi-final when Kaizer Chiefs lock horns with Orlando Pirates this afternoon.
The match will get underway at 15h00.
Amakhosi will be under immense pressure to avenge their 2-1 loss to Bucs in the league last month, particularly coach Giovanni Solinas who can’t afford to lose his second Soweto derby in row in a space of four weeks.
Chiefs got to the semi-finals of the tournament after negotiating past Black Leopards in the round of 16 via the penalty shoot-out before they knocked out SuperSport United in the quarter-finals.
Amakhosi have won the League Cup a record 13 times and three times in the Telkom Knockout era which is also a record. Their last triumph in this competition was in 2010.
Meanwhile, their rivals Bucs are high on confidence after winning the last derby in the Absa Premiership.
Milutin Sredojevic’s charges got to this stage of the competition after beating Chippa United 1-0 in the last 16 and came from behind to sink AmaZulu 3-1 in the quarter-finals in early November.
Pirates have won the Telkom Knockout only once in 2011.
