Teams: Mamelodi Sundowns vs Vaal University of Technology
Date: 23 February 2020
Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium
Mamelodi Sundowns will guard against complacency when they host minnows Vaal University of Technology in a Nedbank Cup last 16 clash on Sunday afternoon at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
The Brazilians are high in confidence after winning four straight matches in all competitions, including a 2-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic in midweek.
In the Nedbank Cup though, Pitso Mosimane’s charges got to this stage of the tournament after edging neighbors SuperSport United 1-0 in their last 32 tie two weeks ago.
Sundowns will be without the suspended quartet of Gaston Sirino, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Mosa Lebusa and Hlompho Kekana, who all got their fourth bookings of the season in the win over Celtic.
On the other hand, VUT will be fired up to cause another upset after knocking out Golden Arrows on penalties in the last 32 following a 2-2 draw in extra-time two weeks ago.
Stanley Nkoana’s troops became the first ever fourth-tier side to defeat a Premier Soccer League side with Arrows’ scalp.
VUT, competing for the first time in the Nedbank Cup, are campaigning in the Gauteng SAB Regional League and are the only fourth-tier side that qualified for the tournament this year.
Here's how they line up:
Sundowns: Mweene, Lukhubeni, Lakay, Soumahoro, Seabi, Arendse, Mabunda, Makgalwa, Mkhulise, Maboe, Meza.
Subs: Pieterse, Madisha, Jali, Ngoma, Zwane, Mahlambi, Langerman.
VUT: Naane, Mokondo, Tema, Lekalakala, Sibisi, Mawelewele, Mampa, Bodiba, Chesane, Hlongwane, Mgidi.
Subs: Makhalanyane, Masango, Nkoe, Khoza, Raseasala, Nkosinathi, Mdlalose.
