Bloemfontein Celtic and Richards Bay will battle for a place in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup when they meet at the Dr Molemela Stadium in a last-16 match on Sunday afternoon.

The game is scheduled to get underway at 15h30.

Celtic earned their place in the last 16 of the competition thanks to a penalty shootout victory over fellow PSL side SuperSport United on February 11. The teams drew 1-1 after extra time before the Bloemfontein side won 5-4 on spot kicks.

Phunya Sele Sele have won the Nedbank Cup just once, back in 1985, while their participation in the 2017 edition ended in the quarterfinals when they were beaten 2-1 after extra time by eventual runners-up Orlando Pirates.

Celtic come into the game on the back of a 2-0 loss at home to Polokwane City in a midweek league clash on March 7.

Richards Bay earned their place in this phase of the cup tournament by defeating Witbank Spurs in the preliminaries back in December 2017, followed by an emphatic 5-0 victory over third-tier team Young Tigers on February 14.

The KwaZulu-Natal side is in its maiden Nedbank Cup campaign, having only been formed in 2017 following the sale of Thanda Royal Zulu’s top flight status to Durban giants AmaZulu.

Richards Bay come into the game have lost 1-0 at home to Pretoria University in a league clash on March 4.
