Starting XI: SuperSport v Chiefs

Absa Premiership Starting XI: SuperSport United v Kaizer Chiefs 06 January 2018

By Soccer Laduma - Jan 06, 2018 05:00 PM
Absa Premiership

Teams: SuperSport United v Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 6 January 2018

Venue: Mbombela Stadium

In arguably the pick of the first Absa Premiership weekend of 2018’s fixtures, SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs will face off at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

Eric Tinkler’s side got their league campaign off to a promising start, but have faltered somewhat in recent fixtures and now face a battle to stay in touch with the leading pack.

Matsatsantsa have been forced to play catch-up in the ABSA Premiership due to their busy schedule, which has been crammed as a result of their MTN8 victory and their run to the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

They have picked up 16 points from their first 11 league fixtures, while most sides — including Amakhosi — had already played 15 heading into the gameweek.

Chiefs have picked up 22 points so far, in what has been another stuttering season. They have showed flashes of brilliance when at their best, but have only netted a measly 13 times so far. Pressure on Steve Komphela has mounted due to their inconsistent form.

Komphela knows that the best way to respond to critics is with good results — and there could be a few better than a victory over one of the league’s most feared sides in Nelspruit.

Here's how they line up:

SuperSport:
1. Pieterse, 18. Nhlapo, 29. Gould, 27. Egwuekwe , 14. Bhasera, 8. Furman, 6. Letsholonyane, 28. Mokoena, 24,. Mbule, 16. Modiba, 11. Brockie.

Chiefs: 16Khune, 4. Cardoso, 20. Hadebe, 30. Ngezana, 36. Ntiya-Ntiya, 23. Molangoane, 13. Katsande, 12. Maluleka, 27. Ekstein, 14. Tshabalala, 9. Páez.

I dont agree with you bro.Paez need good ball distributors,of which your current middlefielders cant do it.Defenders panic when Paez is arround. They dont become threat to our middlefielders an defenders.Your middle line are unable to pass the ball to themselves, how will they be able to create chances to their striking force.Play the ball on spaces an watch what Paez can do to you.He is always struggling to get good balls because there is no supply. Thanks you remember Nkatha,he was blamed for chancers he lost, forgetting he was the one who created them. For now talk about a coach, not players because any street team can beat this chiefs team. They dont have a pattern.they just play to get paid.Note, teams like chiefs have the style of play.which need certain players, with a special coach and business minded individual like Kaizer Motaung, not just Motaung who cant even talk to the teams fans.

Open letter to Steve Khomphela. Dear Steve, I find it odd that to this day, especially after the Supersport game, that you haven't realised that Chiefs weak link is your most trusted player, Paez. The guy is destructive to our attacking play. Yes we attack with pace, which is impressive, however, most of the time when the balls are channelled towards Paez, he either loses them, he is offside or makes a hasty decision. Our midfielders are not able to function during attacks because they don't have a multidimensional strike who would be able to hold the ball for them. What baffled me the most yesterday was when a free kick was taken while Paez was standing close to the goalkeeper, yet he went on to fight to play the ball, which was a sign of an unintelligent player. Steve, currently a strike who will score goals would be a bonus. What we need isn't necessarily a goal scorer, but a ball holder. The last time we had one was Kingston Nkatha. With modern football, where every player is expected to defend, transitions need to be utilised effectively. That can only be achieved with a player up there who is able to bring the team into play. Paez is simply not that player. The consequence of his presence will always be speculative passes towards him because he is one dimensional. I heard you say other players see Paez late. It could be that the other players have lost confidence in him. Please be aware that you will lose you job because of Paez. Paez isn't the type of strike who can be up there on his own. Hope you heed this message bro Steve. Not even the presence of Ntshangase will solve the Paez problem. Get someone to play with the team. Try Zuma. He might be able to bring in the midfielders during the attacking play. Thank you

Truth be told, Shabba is VERY tired. Maluleke is passing blanks. Ekstein is another case. Lets get get Meyiwa in. It can be Ntshangase as well assisting Willard and then get Zuma or Moon to play along Gustavo. Because honestly the tried n tested is not showing the capabilities of their former self.

@MSANDROTIC I feel we can be effective with the current system. Our weakest link is Paez. The guy destroys 80% of our attacking play. If Steve cannot see it, Mabedi should.

@Ntsika239 I was talking about the promotion of ntiya ntiya not the others that u're talking about but to answer your question I would say yes bcos chiefs couldn't buy players bcos of budget constraints if one may say so they opted to promote so yes it was out of desperation and if your memory is sharp bvuma was promoted out of desperation last year when all the keepers were injured by the way moon was a free agent from maritzburg he was not promoted
