Starting XI: Chiefs v Sundowns

Absa Premiership Starting XI: Kaizer Chiefs v Mamelodi Sundowns 27 January 2018

By Soccer Laduma - Jan 27, 2018 07:12 PM
Absa Premiership

Teams: Kaizer Chiefs v Mamelodi Sundowns

Date: 27 January 2018

Venue: FNB Stadium

All eyes will be on Leonardo Castro, when his former club Mamelodi Sundowns, visits his new employers, Kaizer Chiefs, at FNB Stadium in the pick of Saturday’s Absa Premiership fixtures.

Castro got his Amakhosi career off to a blistering start, scoring the winner in their 2-1 defeat of Baroka. That victory has given Chiefs a chance to move within two points of Masandawana, should they claim all three in Johannesburg.

However, Sundowns showed exactly why they are the team to beat in their 3-0 thrashing of Platinum Stars, and Steve Komphela’s side will be well aware that they have a massive task on their hands.

The hosts will take inspiration from the fact that the Brazilians lost 3-1, to their Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates, on 13 January. Furthermore, Chiefs themselves downed Sundowns in October, beating them 2-1 in a match which saw Tiyani Mabunda red-carded.

Komphela has often come under pressure from his own supporters, during what has been an inconsistent season for Chiefs.

However, come Saturday, he will have a golden chance to silence the critics in a match which may well decide the course of the league title.

Here's how they line up:

Chiefs: 16. Khune, 4. Cardoso, 20. Hadebe, 30. Ngezana, 21. Zulu, 18. Moleko, 13. Katsande, 12. Maluleka, 14. Tshabalala, 29. Moon, 28. Zuma.

Sundowns: 14. Onyango, 4. Langerman, 27. Madisha, 16. Nascimento, 29. Soumahoro, 7. Manyisa, 33. Billiat, 13. Mabunda, 11. Vilakazi, 8. Kekana, 22. Tau.

@setlaboswana My personal disappointment was that my team could not build on the promise shown in the first halve......in general we are moving forward (literally and figuratively), but slowly and cautiously..........Slow, calculated and cautious..........I think I just described Steven Komphela!(a Chess-player of the highest order!)

@blackmeteor, but, I also feel the rivalry between Downs and fau has reached another level judging by the build-up to the game, mind games and the numbers at the stadium.

@blackmeteor, yes mate, the game was well marketed, a lot of hype was created around the encounter, some even going as far as saying the fixture is a league decider. We were promised a lot of goals, only to witness a dull draw.

@blackmeteor, no mate, I placed it on record that fau vs Downs encounter was disappointing, disappointed me. I don't think supporters got value for their hard earned cash. I fee like they were scammed.

@setlaboswana So you reckon........."both teams gave supporters value for their hard earned cash." What's this?......... Do I have you on record actually paying us a compliment?

@DJ Nax i don't agree with you, Pitso style of play was very good and organised. Take a look of the games we lost, poor defense nothing else, we were just unlucky not to score on this game.

It was a tactical game where both sets of players were very cautious. Onyango nearly caused Sundowns the game because of that.

Pitso played the style of chiefs and he came back with nothing, chiefs is playing like this and they are 5 points behind, the tactical type of play is destroying our football, please Pitso never do it on other teams, as for Chiefs it is fine they deserved their own medicine. After Sundowns and CTC game, a message to all other teams, if Sundowns wins, kiss the league goodbye.

@Olerilwe yah I get what ur saying but problem with our lineup is our 7 defenders are unlikely to score while sundowns defenders are always a always a threat to us.

During the build-up to the game, everyone was talking about how Steve Komphela is going to park the bus. And then come game-time Pitso Mosimane pulled Metrorail Train off of Pretoria Train Station and parked it in FNB Stadium, now everyone is acting like they didn't see a thing...
