Starting XI: Chiefs v Sundowns
Absa Premiership Starting XI: Kaizer Chiefs v Mamelodi Sundowns 27 January 2018
Teams: Kaizer Chiefs v Mamelodi Sundowns
Date: 27 January 2018
Venue: FNB Stadium
All eyes will be on Leonardo Castro, when his former club Mamelodi Sundowns, visits his new employers, Kaizer Chiefs, at FNB Stadium in the pick of Saturday’s Absa Premiership fixtures.
Castro got his Amakhosi career off to a blistering start, scoring the winner in their 2-1 defeat of Baroka. That victory has given Chiefs a chance to move within two points of Masandawana, should they claim all three in Johannesburg.
However, Sundowns showed exactly why they are the team to beat in their 3-0 thrashing of Platinum Stars, and Steve Komphela’s side will be well aware that they have a massive task on their hands.
The hosts will take inspiration from the fact that the Brazilians lost 3-1, to their Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates, on 13 January. Furthermore, Chiefs themselves downed Sundowns in October, beating them 2-1 in a match which saw Tiyani Mabunda red-carded.
Komphela has often come under pressure from his own supporters, during what has been an inconsistent season for Chiefs.
However, come Saturday, he will have a golden chance to silence the critics in a match which may well decide the course of the league title.
Here's how they line up:
Chiefs: 16. Khune, 4. Cardoso, 20. Hadebe, 30. Ngezana, 21. Zulu, 18. Moleko, 13. Katsande, 12. Maluleka, 14. Tshabalala, 29. Moon, 28. Zuma.
Sundowns: 14. Onyango, 4. Langerman, 27. Madisha, 16. Nascimento, 29. Soumahoro, 7. Manyisa, 33. Billiat, 13. Mabunda, 11. Vilakazi, 8. Kekana, 22. Tau.
