Starting XI: Wits v FS Stars

Absa Premiership Starting XI: Bidvest Wits v Free State Stars 05 January 2018

Absa Premiership

Teams: Bidvest Wits v Free State Stars

Date: 5 January 2018

Venue: Bidvest Stadium

The Absa Premiership gets back underway on Friday evening after the Christmas break, with defending champions Bidvest Wits hosting Free State Stars at the Bidvest Stadium.

Astonishingly, Wits headed into the new year rooted to the bottom of the log with 11 points from 14 games. By contrast, Ea Lla Koto, who have played one more match than Gavin Hunt’s side, are fifth with 22 points.

However, the league table has seemingly done little to curb the Clever Boys’ power in the transfer market.

Wits recently announced the mid-season signings of Edwin Gyimah and Lehlohonolo Majoro, while also striking pre-contract agreements to sign Thobani Mncwango‚ Robyn Johannes and Denis Weidlich with effect from 1 July. In addition, the champions recalled Sifiso Myeni from his loan spell at SuperSport United.

Free State Stars went into the festive season in high spirits following a 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates, but they will arguably face an even tougher test in a desperate and rejuvenated Clever Boys on their return to league action.

However, they have long been a bogey team for Wits, and with recent form on their side, will be looking to hammer another nail into the coffin of the once mighty champions.

Here's how they line up:

Wits: 1. Keet, 4. Khumalo, 7. Klate, 8. Monare, 14. Claasen, 13. Hlanti, 15. Mkhwanazi, 23. Myeni, 25. Gyimah, 33. Frolser, 45. Majoro.

Stars: 23. Sangare, 6. Teyise, 22. Keita, 20. Mashego, 4. Makhaula, 11. Jantjie, 2. Mobbie, 13. Maphakisa, 5. Masehe, 27. Tchilimbou, 3. Anas.

"For me the principle is one… I asked the guys from Baroka why do you wanna loan the player out? 'No, Chiefs wanna have a look at him for six months then they'll decide'. I said to them it's not about Chiefs, it's about the player. I represent the player. If the reason doesn't benefit the player the deal is off. "You were right whatever you said with Kgoloko [Bakgaga coach Thobejane] that I'm pushing for [an] outright [move]. I was pushing for outright because I found it to be insulting [to loan the player] and it sounded more like this boy was going to be on trial for six months at Chiefs. "But it doesn't matter... as we speak now he is doing a medical then he is going back to Polokwane, then he will be back on Monday." Mahlakgane insisted the medical was a formality.

@SowetoBOY I like to agree with you. While he won the League, there were players who did not play regularly and had hoped to be trusted by thr coach this season. and what happened was that those players were let go. Shongwe left, and others left. The dressing room feels hard-done by the coach and they are loosing games to voice their frustrations. afterall players do their talking on the field.

Things started to go bad when pictures of that dead girl appeared with Gavin Hunt and her playing lovey dovey. He obviously denied it but it since that incident Wits have been losing and having their players injured all the time.

I'm Not surprised by results, the coach is continuing where He left off playing players who have just being signed while others who have being waiting for chance to play are overlooked for instance Major was signed llastweek and already he is on the field.

@SowetoBOY, that will be good my man, we need a skilled Coaches like him in local football. BUT, I would have wished he continue at these small teams where pressure is minimal, he really do well at these small teams.

@Schakos, three wins in succession, Wits will be with the likes of Bucs Member. I don't think they should press the panic button yet.
