Starting XI: AmaZulu V Sundowns

Absa Premiership

Teams: AmaZulu v Mamelodi Sundowns

Date: 24 February 2015

Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium

Mamelodi Sundowns will be looking to close the gap on league leaders Kaizer Chiefs when they travel to Durban on Tuesday night to face AmaZulu in an Absa Premiership match at the Moses Mabhida stadium.

The match is scheduled to get underway at 19h30.

Sundowns are currently 13 points adrift of league leaders Kaizer Chiefs, but have played two games less and will see this as the ideal chance to close the gap.

The Brazilians are placed third on the table with 34 points, three points behind Bidvest Wits in second, but a win combined with a superior goal difference will see them up to second.

The side from Tshwane are in fine form at the moment and are on a 14 match unbeaten run in the league following a 4-1 win over Moroka Swallows in their last Absa Premiership encounter.

Moreover, Sundowns come into this game off the back of a 2-0 win over Thanda Royal Zulu in a Nedbank Cup match this past weekend.

AmaZulu, on the other hand, are in miserable form and come into this game low on confidence after exiting the Nedbank Cup this past weekend after losing 2-1 to NFD side Golden Arrows.

Usuthu’s league form has not been any better as they currently occupy the bottom of the table with a measly nine points, nine adrift of their closest competitors in 15th place.

In fact, the last time AmaZulu tasted victory of any sort was way back in the beginning of December 2012 in a 2-1 win over the University of Pretoria. Since then the side from Durban has played seven games in all competitions, lost five and drawn two.

In head-to-head stats, AmaZulu and Sundowns have met in 52 league matches since 1985. The Brazilians have claimed 34 wins compared to six for Usuthu, while 12 matches have been drawn.

When the teams met earlier this season, the Brazilians claimed a 2-0 home win thanks to a brace from Cuthbert Malajila.
