2019 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier
Teams: Bafana Bafana v Nigeria
Date: 16 November 2018
Venue: FNB Stadium
Bafana Bafana and Nigeria will locks horns a in a crucial 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier in Group E on Saturday afternoon at FNB Stadium.
The match is set to begin at 15h00.
Stuart Baxter’s charges are on the ropes after what was supposed to be a routine victory over Seychelles away in their last qualifier which ended in a disappointing goalless draw on October 16.
Bafana had thrashed the Pirates 6-0 three days earlier at FNB Stadium, but surrendered top spot in Group E with the stalemate.
On the other hand, the Super Eagles beat Libya in their back-to-back games, winning 4-0 at home and 3-2 away in a space of three days to top the group, a point ahead of Bafana.
The Super Eagles could qualify for the 2019 Afcon finals in Cameroon if they beat Bafana. South Africa will also qualify if they win against their nemesis Nigeria.
The two sides will qualify if Libya, who are third with four points, lose against Seychelles in a match that will be played on the same day. Bafana and Nigeria will also qualify if Libya plays to a draw against bottom of the group Seychelles, given that South Africa avoids defeat.
Baxter’s men will have to replicate the form that saw them overcome Nigeria 2-0 in their own backyard in their first qualifier match in June 2017.
The victory for Bafana in Uyo was the first win against the Super Eagles in a competitive match.
