The CBD will go down as one of the most feared trio in PSL history, but there’s now a new partnership at Mamelodi Sundowns that can emulate the elite group of Leonardo Castro, Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly.
When Sundowns set an incredible record of 71 points in their title winning campaign in 2015/16, Castro, Billiat and Dolly were in amazing form. And while Sundowns supporters would jump at the opportunity to see a reunion of the ‘CBD’, there’s three players currently looking to emulate them – Themba Zwane, Kermit Erasmus and Peter Shalulile.
During the season Sundowns set the record, the CBD scored a combined 39 goals and contributed with 31 assists in all competitions.
Billiat and Castro both scored 15 goals in all competitions, while Dolly contributed with nine. Sundowns were just unstoppable with this trio terrorising opposition defenders.
Before the start of this season, Sundowns signed Erasmus and Shalulile and both have combined well with reigning PSL Footballer of the Season, Zwane.
Zwane has scored eight goals, Shalulile has bagged 10 while Erasmus has contributed with five. This is a combined number of 23 goals scored between by the trio.
These players have played a huge role for Sundowns, who are unbeaten in the DSTV Premiership this season. Sundowns are currently out of the country for CAF Championship League duty, with a clash against Algerian side CR Belouizdad set to be played at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Tanzania on Sunday, February 28.
