Mamelodi Sundowns

Surprise New Face For Downs/Chiefs Clash!

Pitso Mosimane has given Reyaad Pieterse a very slim chance of being available for Sunday’s top of the Absa Premiership clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs – opening the door for young Abram Ngcobo to make the squad.

Pieterse has suffered a neck injury and the Downs coach all but ruled him out of the weekend’s fixtures having already missed their midweek 1-0 win over Highlands Park, with Kennedy Mweene between the sticks.

Regular first choice, Denis Onyango, is away for a family bereavement following the death of his father, leaving Ngcobo as the only man to back up Mweene.

Ngcobo was also on the bench during Downs’ midweek match, though it was expected then that Pieterse could recover in time for Sunday.

“He has got a neck problem and he might not make it,” Mosimane told the Siya crew.

“This is why you must have four goalkeepers. Some clubs have three, but I prefer four because now we have Denis away, Reyaad has a neck problem and Kennedy is playing – so you must have a reserve goalkeeper. You can be in trouble. Abram was playing in the MDC, but he can't anymore because of his age (23).”

Sundowns host log leaders Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday and can leapfrog Amakhosi to the top if they win this weekend.
