Mamelodi Sundowns returned to Chloorkop for the start of pre-season late last month and subsequently travelled to sunny Nelspruit to continue their preparation for the upcoming 2019/20 campaign.
But striker Jeremy Brockie has not yet joined his teammates, though his whereabouts have since been explained to the Siya crew.
The New Zealand forward is back in his native country attending his grandfather’s funeral, and as such the club has given him time off for the bereavement. ‘Sniper’, as Brockie is affectionately known in football circles, is expected back in the coming days and will report for duty at his club – though it is well documented that the player is keen on a move elsewhere, having not been a regular at Downs.
The 31-year-old joined the Brazilians in January last year from crosstown rivals SuperSport United and much was made of this high-profile move. But Brockie has struggled to replicate the form that initially caught the eye of Downs coach Pitso Mosimane as he’s only managed two goals in over 30 matches since making the switch to the reigning Absa Premiership champions.
