Five Mamelodi Sundowns players made their debuts on Sunday night, but there were several others left out and not paraded by their new club.
The Brazilians have so far announced an incredible 13 new players, including two that were signed last season but loaned out.
Only five – Nyiko Mobbie, Aubrey Modiba, Haashim Domingo, Peter Shalulile and Kermit Erasmus were debutants against Bloemfontein Celtic in their MTN8 quarterfinal fixture, which ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat.
Joint coaches Manqoba Mnqgithi and Rulani Mokwena were faced with the tough task of having to gradually introduce the new arrivals into a team that ended the 2019/20 season as domestic treble winners before Pitso Mosimane resigned.
Mosimane has since joined Al Ahly.
As the Siya crew reported, and later confirmed by the Downs technical team, there will be a few players leaving Chloorkop so that the squad is a manageable size.
Sammy Seabi has already joined Swallows FC, while Aubrey Ngoma and Malebogo Modise have been snapped up by Cape Town City and Maritzburg United respectively – all three deals confirmed as loan moves.
Ali Meza also joined Maritzburg, but his Chloorkop exit is permanent.
Tiyani Mabunda, Anele Ngcongca and Wayne Arendse have also been linked with moves to Swallows, but there is no confirmation yet.
With Downs campaigning in the CAF Champions League as well, you can expect the technical team to rotate the team now and again. So those who remain could still get some game-time over the course of the season.
