Mamelodi Sundowns have given insight into how they planned for their international stars to meet up with the rest of the team in Sudan, ahead of their penultimate CAF Champions League group match against Al Hilal.
The Sundowns players who were in the Bafana Bafana squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan on Sunday have remained in the East African country and will meet up with the rest of the squad when they arrive on Tuesday, March 30, in Omdurdam. Sundowns are due to play against Hilal on Friday, April 02.
Themba Zwane, Lebohang Maboe, Mosa Lebusa, Thapelo Morena and Andile Jali were part of the Bafana squad and were received by Sundowns' advanced team at a hotel in Omdurdam, after the senior national team's defeat on Sunday. The Sundowns advanced team travelled to Sudan last week.
Sundowns' Legal and Commercial Executive, Yogesh Singh, explained how the planning worked for the trip.
"It would not have made sense for them (the Bafana Bafana players) to come back, so we asked them to remain behind in Sudan and then they joined our advanced team at the hotel we have booked in Sudan," Singh told the Siya crew.
"Our advanced team went there last week and they would have received the Bafana players at the hotel and then they would just wait for the rest of the team to arrive."
Sundowns have already qualified for the quarterfinals of the Champions League, having registered four straight wins in group B.
