The latest African rankings have been updated and Soccer Laduma takes a look how Mzansi’s big three compare to Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly on the standings.

South Africa’s 2020/21 campaign will kick-off next weekend where the MTN8 will raise the curtain on an action-packed season ahead. Meanwhile, the likes of Egypt and Morocco are still completing their respective 2019/20 campaigns.

However, there has been lots of movement on the African rankings since football’s return.

According to the system on footballdatabase.com, Al Ahly - who are now being coached by former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor, Pitso Mosimane - remain at the top of the rankings with Tunisian side, Esperance de Tunis trailing at second place.

Meanwhile, TP Mazembe, Al-Merreikh and El Zamalek make up the rest of the top five in that order.

In Mzansi, Sundowns, who were crowned 2019/20 champions, remain the highest placed South African club, though they have seen a drop from ninth position to 10th.

Kaizer Chiefs, who ended the last domestic campaign at the second position, find themselves at 17th place on the rankings, with third-placed finishers Orlando Pirates one above at 16th position.
