According to Siya sources Mamelodi Sundowns are “close” to agreeing terms with a Slovakian striker with features “similar to Nurkovic”.
Pavol Safranko, a 26-year-old forward currently on the books of Romanian club Sepsi OSK is believed to be heading to the Premier Soccer League next season with indications that a deal between the two sides has been agreed.
The cat was let out the bag over the last day or so by Sepsi general director Attila Hadnagy, who told news outlet Lelato that Safranko would be joining “the richest club in South Africa” and that transfer fee was a figure of around 700 000 euros (R13-million).
It’s not the first time Downs have been linked with the player, with reports in February suggesting their initial bid to have him move to Chloorkop before the most recent transfer window slammed shut had been rejected.
The Siya crew now has it on good authority that Safranko could very well be a Downs player next season and those wondering what sort of player he is, the Slovakian has been described to have similar qualities as that of Samir Nurkovic, the Kaizer Chiefs striker who finished as the club’s top goal scorer in his maiden season last year.
Chiefs, though, paid nothing for Nurkovic, a Serbian.
Safranko’s imminent arrival at Chloorkop is heavily backed by statements made by Sepsi director, Hadnagy this week.
Indications from sources here in Mzansi is that the deal is as good as done to sign a player who has so far this season scored seven goals in 25 games for Sepsi.
