Sirino Breaks His Silence On Transfer Saga!

With the Premier Soccer League transfer window slamming shut on Monday and Al Ahly still pursuing Gaston Sirino, the Mamelodi Sundowns attacker, who is still nursing an injury, has finally broken his silence on the saga!

Speaking to the Siya crew, the Uruguayan talisman confirmed his wish to leave Chloorkop to reunite with former coach Pitso Mosimane, who was appointed by the Egyptian giants in October following his resignation at Downs.

“It is my intention (to leave),” Sirino said.

“But it does not depend on me, but on Sundowns to accept the offer.”

That is all he would say on the situation that has seen a back and forth between the two clubs over whether they can agreed a deal.

Earlier this month, the Siya crew reported that Downs had rejected a bid from Al Ahly, understood to be in the region of R16-million, but the reigning DStv Premiership champions, according to insiders, are holding out for more.

Indications are that Al Ahly offered R48-million last season for Sirino, around the time Sundowns were in talks with Sirino over a new deal.

The player signed a five-year contract in June, committing his long term future to the club, but it would appear the lure of working with Mosimane again – and potentially earning a lot more than his current package at Downs, has convinced Sirino otherwise.

In a twist to this entire transfer saga, Sundowns launched their own bid for two of Al Ahly’s best players in record signing Hussein El Shahat as well as vice-captain Ayman Ashraf for a combined $5-million (R80-million) fee.

But there has been no movement on that front, with insiders suggesting this could have been done to show Al Ahly that Sirino would not be sold.

In SA, the window closes on Monday, but Egypt has until December 6 to still sign players and it is likely this saga will drag until then.
