Downs’ R16m Double Swoop!

Pitso Mosimane’ plan to build a new-look Mamelodi Sundowns next season has received yet another boost with two more arrivals.

It’s understood that the Brazilians have had a whooping R16-million bid accepted by Highlands Park for midfielder Mothobi Mvala and striker Peter Shalulile.

Following the Siya crew’s breaking story more than a week ago that the club had been sold to Tim Sukazi – pending ratification from the Premier Soccer League – two of Highlands’ best players are now believed to be on their way out.

The duo will join a growing list of relatively young players at Chloorkop next season, among them the Bidvest Wits trio of goalkeeper Ricardo Goss (26), Haashim Domingo (25) and striker Gift Motupa (25).

Downs also landed the signature of Lesedi Kapinga (25) from Black Leopards as a free agent recently, though coach Mosimane said that 31-year-old George Maluleka, who also arrived on a free from Kaizer Chiefs, was an exception.

Mvala and Shalulile are 26 and 27-years-old respectively.

Indications are that both deals are all but done, the Siya crew having already reported last week that agreements had been reached in principle.

It’s thought while Mvala has already signed his Downs contract, Shalulile will do so when he returns from his native country Namibia.

Foreign nationals appear to have been given special dispensation to leave the country even with borders closed and the Siya crew understands the man who finished the season with 16 goals in the league will put pen to paper in time for pre-season.
