Pitso’s Downs Contract Terms & Conditions

It’s been reported recently that Pitso Mosimane turned down a move to Qatar because to him “it’s not just about money”.

The Mamelodi Sundowns coach has now openly talked about the terms and conditions of his contract with the Chloorkop outfit, where he is closing in on seven years in charge, having managed to win four Premier League titles.

“I have a contract (at Sundowns) and I honour my contracts, I finish them. I don’t break contracts and I don’t threaten that I am wanted by so and so. I sign my contracts in one day. If the offer is there, today it must be finished,” he told journalists.

Mosimane was sitting down with the media following the club’s record ninth championship and freely answered all questions posed in his direction.

“I don’t want my phone to be buzzing the whole time with people telling me how much they can offer me. I want to coach the team that I want to coach – and I make the team. I must be given time to make the team. When I have done that, then give me time for it to function,” explained Mosimane, who also managed a CAF Champions League trophy in 2016 with Sundowns.

The coach said he does insist on certain clauses in his contract, but they are never about his financial demands.

“You have never heard me fight for money in a contract. Yes, there are issues that I fight for in the contract, but it is not money. Never. My contracts are determined by values and principles. Sometimes I can be a difficult coach because I want to do things a certain way,” he said.

The 54-year-old coach explained why he had complete freedom at Downs.

“I must be the one who fails and not argue that I didn’t have your support. I train the team, I pick the team, I substitute and everything. You can’t fire a coach when you were the one picking the team. Who is going to fire you? It’s wrong. I must fall on my sword because the results are on me, I don’t share them with anyone,” Mosimane concluded.
