Pitso Opens Up On Failed Modiba Bid

Pitso Mosimane yesterday opened up to the media when asked for his thoughts on Mamelodi Sundowns’ failed bid to land Aubrey Modiba.

It was made public by the players’ current club, SuperSport United, on Friday that he would not be moving across town to Chloorkop after talks broke down between the two clubs over the sale of the Bafana Bafana international.

Stan Matthews, CEO of SuperSport, confirmed instead that Modiba had agreed to a new contract, which would see him remain with Matsatsantsa until 2024.

“I don’t want to talk about Aubrey because he is not our player, but we would have loved to have him here,” Mosimane told reporters following his side’s 2-1 win over SuperSport in the Tshwane derby on Sunday.

Coincidentally, Modiba had been ruled out of that Absa Premiership encounter due to an injury, with his absence felt by coach Kaitano Tembo.

“I am happy that we did the right thing and we approached them (SuperSport) for the player and it was not successful. Maybe Sundowns can explain what happened because I don’t do transfers. I only ask if I can have this player or the other one,” added Mosimane.

“But he is a good player, and it is not in our hands because he is not our player. If he decided to stay and renew the contract he knows why. We should give SuperSport the respect. They wanted Lucky (Mohomi) and pulled out of the deal also and I don’t know why. It’s football. You can’t always get what you want.”
