Pitso Mosimane’s PSL Footballer of the Year nomination of Hlompho Kekana has been rejected by a Mamelodi Sundowns legend.
As the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season is on its latter stages, and with the PSL expected to reward the top performers of the campaign with individual awards at the end of the season, Mosimane has come out in support of his captain at Sundowns to win the Footballer of the Season award, as quoted in the media.
The Sundowns head coach also picked Orlando Pirates’ Thembinkosi Lorch as another potential candidate for the award.
However, speaking to the Siya crew, former Sundowns midfielder Eric Ramasike disapproved of Mosimane’s nomination of Kekana for the top award and has explained why.
“For me, any nomination that Hlompho Kekana gets, I think he deserves it, but as for being Footballer of the Year, that one I don’t know. Personally, I would give the Footballer of the Year award to Themba Zwane. I think Themba Zwane deserves it,” said Ramasike.
“Whatever else that Hlompho will be nominated for, I think he will be deserving of it because he’s doing well for the team. I wouldn’t give the Footballer of the Year award to him, and I would give it to Themba instead,” added the legend.
The legend further explained that he wouldn’t nominate Kekana as his second choice for the award either, but has revealed that Gaston Sirino would be the player he selects for the gong after ‘Mshishi’.
