Word reaching the Siya crew is that a Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder has penned a deal with DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
As previously reported last week by Soccer Laduma, Celtic were open to selling talented midfielder Neo Maema to Sundowns and now it’s understood that the player has signed a deal with the 11-time league champions.
Sundowns bagged their fourth consecutive league title recently and they continue to beef up their squad with some of the best talent the country has to offer.
Maema, who has previously played for Celtic’s Diski Challenge side, will be the latest to join the Chloorkop outfit, as they see him as a player who will make a contribution for years to come.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder featured in 18 matches in all competitions during the past season, scoring three goals and coming up with two assists for Phunya Sele Sele.
Selling Maema to Sundowns will be a big boost for Celtic, who have had financial problems well documented in the media. It will, however, be a big loss to the squad, considering the club's squad size.
Sundowns are expected to make announcements on new signings before the start of the 2021/22 campaign.
Maema’s agent Varsilli Barbis was not available for comment.
