Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he is surprised “people don’t like” a player he feels is a key squad member at Chloorkop.
Following his side’s narrow 1-0 win over Golden Arrows to cut the lead Kaizer Chiefs have at the top of the Absa Premiership table to just three points ahead of their clash on Thursday night, ‘Jingles’ jumped to defend Rivaldo Coetzee.
Playing in his most recent position in midfielder instead of being further back at rearguard, the 23-year-old was one of the stand-out performance for the coach as he singled him out in a match they won right at the death.
“Rivaldo is an unbelievable player – he doesn’t get the credit that he deserves,” Mosimane told journalists after he was asked what changes he made to finally end their winless streak in the league since the resumption of football.
“Sometimes people don’t like him and I don’t know why they don’t like him. He is an accurate passer with the right and left foot and he wins headers in the midfield – brings the ball back. But it takes time, maybe people will start realising why we pick him sometimes.”
Coetzee has made 15 appearances in all competitions for Downs this season.
