Siya sources in the know have revealed that Maritzburg United are showing interest in bringing on board a goalkeeper from Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Team of Choice’s number one, Richard Ofori has been linked with an exit from the KwaZulu Natal outfit for quite some time now and sources have indicated in the past that the Ghanaian could be making the move away come the end of the 2019/20 season.
Locally, Orlando Pirates remain favourites to land the 26-year-old goalkeeper’s services, though there has been talk in the past about a possible move to Europe.
In the meantime, according to Siya sources, Maritzburg are preparing to bolster their goalkeeping department should they be without Ofori’s services in the new 2020/21 season.
The Siya crew understands that the Team of Choice are keen on Sundowns’ Reyaad Pieterse, with the 28-year-old also linked with a move away from the Chloorkop-based club.
Indications are that should Maritzburg look to pursue Pieterse further and approach Sundowns with an offer, he could be a direct replacement for Ofori.
The KwaZulu Natal-outfit also have Bongani Mpandle and Jethren Barr on their books as goalkeepers. Mpandle has made six appearances in all competitions for Maritzburg so far this season, while Barr is yet to get in some minutes.
