'We Must Just Appreciate The Fact We Didn't Lose'

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi was less than impressed with the side's performances against Black Leopards on Sunday evening.

It looked like it was going to be another routine game for Sundowns when Mosa Lebusa opened the scoring on nine minutes, however they were unable to add another before Roderick Kabwe equaliser on 80 minutes.

The Sundowns tactician admitted a number of the players did not look sharp and feels the upcoming break will benefit the squad.

"Very lethargic game today. We did not show the hunger that one would have expected. In the first-half we created a lot of opportunities but when you don't take those chances and against a team that is sitting back you know this team will turn around," Mngqithi told SuperSport after the game.

"If you are casual about this one, it's normal for a game like this to turn out differently if you don't do what you are expected to do and terminate the attacks that we get. In the first half, we had two or three clear-cut situations one-on-one with the goalkeeper but we ended up not getting anything from that.

"The truth of the matter is that most of our players today did not look very sharp. Maybe we really need this break because one realises that maybe people are getting tired. We've had a very long run in February or March. Maybe it will help us to come back stronger.

"Even though Leopards did not create a lot of scoring opportunities we were not sharp. Our attacking play had too many turnovers. In the attacking third we did not have the bite or shrewdness that you would expect from Sundowns. And even our counter pressing was not as sharp as it normally is.

"I'm not very excited with the performance today. We must just appreciate the fact we did not lose."
