Mngqithi Credits "Shadrach" & "Abednego" For Downs First Goal

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi praised the work being done by his coaching team, Rhulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela after beating Cape Town City on Wednesday evening.

Lakay opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a well-crafted goal from a set-piece routine and Mngqithi credited Mokwena and Komphela for working on that routine at training.

With the three Sundowns coaches nicknamed 'Shadrach', 'Meshach' and 'Abednego', Mngqithi saw the funny side of the nicknames.

"I think the first half was very good. I want to believe that we should have scored at least four first-half if we took our chances, we were unfortunate not to convert our chances that we got but we were playing against a very dangerous side," Mngqithi told SuperSport after the match.

"We knew how dangerous they can be on transition, with [Craig] Martin, Fagrie Lakay, [Bradley] Ralani, they always cause a threat for you, [Thabo] Nodada coming from the midfield, we expected this, Thami Mkhize inverting from the right hand side, coming inside, allowing Martin to be more on the outside.

"But I think we dealt with the situation very well in terms of managing their transitions and maybe breaking the press a little bit with [Motjeka] Madisha and Ricardo [Nascimento] because Fagrie wanted the space behind Ricardo, which I believe we did that very well," he continued.

"But I'm still a little bit unhappy, the game was a little scrappy we allowed them moments where they could have easily come back where we could have really burried the game earlier on but it's work in progress.

"Once again one one must commend the work that is being done by the coach, 'Abednego' and 'Shadrack' have really done a good job, the set-piece that we scored with [Lyle] Lakay they [Rhulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela] worked on it. It's really encouraging that things that we're working on in training are coming out," he said.

"It's really encouraging to work with people that has so much intelligence, knowledge and detail. One is really encouraged with the work that the guys are putting, our support staff, the medical team, one is really happy."
