The newly-created CAF Champions League for women will be underway next year and Mamelodi Sundowns will have the opportunity to challenge for more continental silverware.
Sundowns’ women’s team recently won the inaugural SAFA National Women’s League without a single defeat and subsequently qualified for a CAF Champions League spot.
Speaking to the Brazilians’ official website, Head Coach Jerry Tshabalala could not contain his excitement for the future of his team, though their current accomplishments will already go down in history books.
“The feeling I’m way too excited about us winning the league. The whole idea was to win the league which we achieved. The champions league it came as a cherry on top and I want the team to go out there and bring it home and us winning the league it is a milestone that we will forever cherish and will go down in the history books."
“If you ask anyone who was the first team coach to win SWNL it will always be Mamelodi Sundowns and Jerry Tshabalala. It hasn’t sunk in yet that we would be representing South Africa in the Champions League, I’ll only believe it the day we play our first game,” he added.
