One of Mamelodi Sundowns’ transfer targets prefers a move to Europe rather than the Premier Soccer League.
It was widely reported last week that Sundowns tabled an offer to Moroccan side, Hassania d'Agadir for the services of Karim El Berkaoui, a versatile attacking player who’s scored 16 goals in 27 appearances this season.
However, Siya sources in Morocco revealed last weekend that the club and the player was not satisfied with the offer tabled to them by the Brazilians.
“I spoke to the player, Karim El Berkaoui, and the president of his club, Hassania Agadir. The president told me that the offer doesn’t meet the expectations of the club and the player himself. He told me that they will turn it down,” the source said.
A football analyst from Morocco, Jalal Bounouar recently revealed that a move to Sundowns is now off the cards for Berkaoui.
“I understand that Karim El Berkaoui won't join Mamelodi Sundowns. Hassania have turned down the offer and there will be no further negotiations,” he said on his official Twitter account.
As reported in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, Berkaoui is keen on a move to Europe.
“What I know is that Karim wants to move to Europe. He has got some offers from Egypt as well,” the source added.
The Brazilians have been linked with a number of local players ahead of the new 2020/21 season and after being turned down by the Moroccan side as they look to bring in a top foreigner, it remains to be seen whether Sundowns will continue their pursuit elsewhere on the continent.
