Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has reserved special mention for one of the club’s peripheral players who finally made his debut this week.
It was a long time coming but attacker Pule Maraisane has finally made his debut for the Brazilians.
The 26-year-old featured in Sundowns’ 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United on Tuesday coming on as a late second half substitute to replace Themba Zwane.
The Stars of Africa development product, who has been at the club since 2021 was set to make his debut earlier on this season; however, he contracted COVID-19 and thereafter suffered a host of niggling injuries that ultimately delayed his first appearance for the club.
Maraisane is amongst the 8 First Time League Winners At Downs:
Now, after finally making his bow for the DStv Premiership champions, Mnqithi has shared his delight with the attacker, saying he is not at the club by mistake.
“We played Pule Maraisane who was playing his first match for the club. He was the only player that had not had the chance to play a match this season and it was very important for us to make sure that we showcase what he’s capable of, because he’s not at Sundowns by mistake, he’s got what it takes to really be part of this group,” Mnqithi told the club’s website.
With Sundowns adamant that they want to finish the season on a high despite the league title already wrapped up, it remains to be seen if Maraisane could be set for more game time towards the latter stages of the campaign.
