In the few months he has been with Mamelodi Sundowns, Neo Maema has risen to the top of the assists chart in the DStv Premiership ahead of the likes of Khama Billiat and Vincent Pule. Soccer Laduma looks at who tops the assist leaderboard so far this season.
Maema moved to the top of the charts with five when he brilliantly set up Peter Shalulile for Sundowns' second goal in the 2-2 draw with SuperSport United in the Tshwane derby on Wednesday.
Maema has played in nine league matches, meaning he provides an assist almost every two games for Sundowns. He has scored three goals in all competitions for the Chloorkop outfit.
Last season, when he was in the colours of Bloemfontein Celtic, Maema finished with three goals and two assists in the 17 matches he played throughout the campaign for the club. He's made a big improvement at Sundowns and could go on to provide more goals for his teammates, if his current form is anything to go by.
Billiat and Pule, meanwhile, are on four assists in the Premiership, while Stellenbosch FC's Junior Mendieta and Tshediso Patjie of Sekhukhune United are also on the same number so far this season.
Below them with three assists are Kaizer Chiefs' Keagan Dolly and Sundowns' Lyle Lakay.
