Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has given an update on the absence of a midfielder, revealing that there was a possibility of a move during the last transfer window.
Promise Mkhuma, who is a former captain of the club's Diski Challenge team, is yet to make an appearance for the defending DStv Premiership champions, as he continues to recover from injury.
The Siya crew reported that Cape Town City were looking at bringing in Mkhuma on transfer deadline day, though the club was unable to complete the deal.
Mngqithi explained why they were looking at loaning the player out during the last window, giving details on how the move failed to materialize.
"He picked up the injury recently. He has been fighting very hard and he has been showing some very good signs. We know what he is capable of. Even the thinking of him going out on loan was to try and maximise the number of minutes he can play this season, so that he is amongst the players who can really fight for their place in the team because we know what he can bring," Mngqithi told media.
"He is still very young and it's not helping him not to play regularly, which is why we wanted him to go out where he can play regularly because it's not easy for him to find a place and stay regularly in the team. But we are happy with the progress he is making in training and we are hopeful when he comes back from this injury, he might give us a thing or two because he presents a scenario very to a (Neo) Maema, a (Thabiso) Kutumela... a little bit more directness, which is very important in the modern game."
