Mamelodi Sundowns appear to be in pole position for a player who is arguably the hottest property in the GladAfrica Championship at the moment.
After being linked with the ‘Big Three’ of Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in the first half of the season, and while a move to the Absa Premiership with one of Mzansi’s giants did not materialise in January, it is believed that JDR Stars’ Moeketsi Makhanya could finally make a big step in his career at the end of the season, as reported in edition 1160 of Soccer Laduma.
Makhanya has contributed immensely in JDR’s push for promotion to Mzansi’s top flight, with the 24-year-old having scored eight goals already in their campaign.
Nditsheni Nemasisi, the ambitious chairman and coach of JDR, who is an attorney by profession, wants the player to help his team gain promotion to the top flight.
“Enquiries have been made, but they have been rejected,” said a close source.
“The big PSL (Absa Premiership) clubs are interested (in Makhanya), but they have been turned down. But that doesn’t mean the club (JDR) won’t be open to selling the player in June,” added the source.
“Now there’s that possibility, for June – it’s something that has been discussed. The thing is that the boy is on a long-term contract with the club. He will be left with two more years on his deal after this season,” the source concluded.
According to Siya sources, Sundowns are favourites for Makhanya’s signature, though his future is far from being concluded.
